WorkSTEPS
A company’s costs are directly related to injury and lost work time.

WorkSTEPS is an occupational health program provided by Reliance Medical Group that predicts a worker's ability to perform his or her duties, whether it be in a pre-employment or return to duty capacity.

WorkSTEPS is a comprehensive program that takes a complex approach to an individual's ability and the physical demands of his job. Ability and demand are then compared for compatibility. Employers now can determine ahead of time if the worker has the motion and strength to safely perform the physical demands of the job they are being hired for.

The ability reports generated also establish the functional capabilities of the employee for comparison to future, post-injury data. Testing, using the WorkSTEPS model, also assists employers with ADA and related employer/employee issues. Additionally, testing baseline musculoskeletal and cardiovascular status, prior to employment, documents pre-existing conditions.

Our WorkSTEPS providers are tested, trained and re-certified every two years so that we can provide each employer with meaningful and reproducible results based on company specific testing.

WorkSTEPS will:
  • Identify persons who have moderate to severe pre-existing cardiovascular, degenerative or cumulative trauma disorders
  • Identify persons who do not meet job specific strength and/or aerobic requirements.
  • Assist employers in appropriately matching current and new employees to safe and appropriate job positions.
  • Collect baseline physical measurements for comparative analysis post-injury or trauma
  • Allow determination of objective physical and functional loss.
  • Assist in differentiating legitimate from fraudulent injuries.
  • Compare an employee's pre-injury and post injury status during legal disputes.
WorkSTEPS Condensed Testing includes:
  • This test includes cardiovascular status, including recovery condition, blood pressure, and heart rate.
  • Static and Dynamic strength evaluation of the back and extremities, with comparison to a nationwide employee database.
  • Job specific or job simulation components includes instruction on the proper body mechanics and lifting techniques.

WorkSTEPS Comprehensive Testing includes:

  • Condensed Testing.
  • Musculoskeletal evaluation including assessments of range of motion, strength, posture, and joint integrity performed by Dr. Silseth.

We also perform:

  • Human Performance Evaluations
  • Physical Capacity Testing
  • Ergonomic Evaluations

What is WorkSTEPS?

WorkSTEPS is a beneficial testing program designed to help employers reduce the occurrence of work place injuries and the associated costs. The savings that employers incur from using WorkSTEPS are well worth the cost of the evaluations.

In one of the first court cases involving WorkSTEPS data, an employee seeking $1.2 million was only awarded $22,000 for medical services and legal fees. The award was based primarily on pre-existing condition data recorded during prior WorkSTEPS testing of the employee, (Worksteps.com, 2009).
